Our History

Fully supported by Mr Barry Cooper, the Head of Department of Accountancy, and Ms Kay Tong, an alumni and lecturer in the Department by that time, the Accountancy Graduates Association (AGA) was established by more than 10 alumni in 1988 and soon organized some activities, such as AGM, fashion show and boat trip, as well as recruiting members. Joseph Yau, a 1978 higher diploma in accountancy graduate, returned to the Department as a lecturer and was elected as the AGA's Secretary acting as a bridge between the Department and the Association. Under the active participation and promotion by the Executive Committee members, AGA had recruited over 2,000 alumni as registered members without paying any subscription within the next 3 years.

In August 1992, AGA was incorporated as a limited by guarantee and started collecting subscription with an immediate effect of great reduction in registered members to a few hundreds. With the continuous dedication of so many enthusiastic alumni year after year in coordinating the fellow graduates and organizing various educational, recreational and social activities, the total number of life and ordinary members was picking up and reached to almost 1,000 at the beginning of the New Millenium. AGA has become of the largest alumni associations in PolyU and in reciprocal contributing to many Alma Marta's functions, such as the Home Coming Days, Walks for Millions, Matching Fund Raising and Donation of Scholarships, as well as working in partnership with the Accountancy Student Association.

In line with the restructuring of the Faculty of Business in 2003, AGA changed its name into the Accountancy and Finance Graduate Association (AFGA) that would enlarge its scope of potential members, varities of activities and services in the years ahead.
